Photography has always been in my DNA. From my earliest years with a simple Instamatic to now with a Canon and all the bells and whistles, photography brought me great joy. In today’s world we all have cameras since our “phones” are more a camera and recording device – a phone second or third. I too use my phone many times to grab a shot since the Canon is not always around; but it’s just not the same, convenient, but not the same. I am certain others with differ with this opinion and that’s OK since this opinion is mine and forms the basis of my photography.
I remember at a very young age buying my film and having to go into a closet to load it into the camera; a camera like the one on the Home page given to me by my grandparents. While it wasn’t necessary since the first part of the role was not actually film, I would not take any chance of light exposure since I would not find out this mistake until the film was processed – too late. And it was somewhat special to drop your film off at the drug store and go back in a week to pick up your prints. It was kind of like Christmas, opening the results of picture taking and seeing what “made it” and what didn’t. You had to be very careful of what you shot since the role was only 24 prints unless you splurged and went with the 36 print role. So unlike today where many a phone has thousands of pictures on it – some never to be seen again as we have limited time and of course are always taking new pictures.
I am just as guilty, my camera and phone overflow with pictures and the thousands of photos taken before digital are awaiting my scanner to make electronic images to share with others which is how it is done. That’s the nature of our world today as technology has made photography a whole new experience. I hope, like me, you enjoy freezing time for a moment and the images it brings!
